Ever since Borderlands 2 saw the light of the day, game-enthusiasts from all over the world have been speculating what new aspects can be expected from its sequel, Borderlands 3. Both the first two editions of the game have met with critical and commercial success, which has resulted in increasing the expectations from the upcoming sequel. Every day, various Borderlands rumors are cropping up online. And we are here to break them down. We have put on this article everything that there is to know about the game. So, without wasting any further time, let us take a deep dive into it.
Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox Software, the developer of the game franchise confirmed that another Borderlands game is being worked upon by the developers. He referred it to as “the big one.” It was also stated that new staff would be hired to work on the new game. This was at the PAX East 2015 event.
Jump to one year at the PAX East 2016 event, Pitchford said that although the game is in its development stage, it could be released in a totally different name. This led the rumor mills rolling where the fandom was speculating about the name of the upcoming game. It was also declared that the new game would be written by Mikey Neumann, the Creative Champion of Gearbox. Neumann also wrote the original Borderlands game. It was also confirmed that Scott Kester, the Art Director of Borderlands 2, would return for the sequel.
However, at the very next year, another Borderlands 3 rumor started surfacing online. It concerned Neumann’s resignation. Unfortunately, it turned out to be true when in June 2017, it was reported that Neumann indeed has resigned from his position at Gearbox owning to health reasons. This brought immense disappointment to fans as they were expecting his narrative style to govern the sequel.
Although it has not been stated what the developers are planning to bring this time, the Easter egg related to the game inside Battleborn: Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion DLC have hinted at some clues about Borderlands 3 gameplay. It is being speculated that Borderlands 3 might be set in the Promethea planet. Since no official videos related to the gameplay has come out, we can’t say how the game will look like when it eventually releases.
Another highly anticipated aspect is related to the Borderlands 3 characters. It got further interest generated due to Pitchford stating that the character of Scooper, who is the son of the mechanic Scooter, might be featured in the sequel. The character was initially developed as a non-canonical joke, but we may see it getting more importance this time. Also, no statement regarding Borderlands 3 release date has been made by the developers as of yet, although it can be said that it is not releasing this year. We can see it getting launched either in 2018 or 2019.
